Since its establishment in 1924, the museum has gathered 118 historical buildings from across Latvia, representing not only Riga but also all regions: Kurzeme, Vidzeme, Zemgale, and Latgale. The buildings are meticulously arranged to provide visitors with a glimpse into Latvia's rural landscape.

Within the Open-Air Museum, you'll encounter farmsteads of Latvian farmers, craftsmen, and fishermen. Each one houses permanent exhibitions—household and working tools, interior furnishings—depicting the era, the district, and the owner's vocation.
